Amused Atheist

Holy books ARE hate speech

The primary argument we hear against critics and satirists of religion like the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists—who satirized all religions, not just Islam—is that their speech “offends billions of people.”

But what about the religions they’re targeting? The Abrahamic holy books—respected and revered by billions worldwide—prescribe the killing of disbelievers (Quran 8:12-1347:4; Leviticus 24:16); order their adherents to fight and enslave those with differing beliefs, a la ISIS (Quran 9:29-30, Deuteronomy 20:10-18); endorse wife-beating (Quran 4:34) and the stoning to death of non-virginal brides (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); order women to quietly submit to the authority of men (1 Timothy 2:11-12); and mandate the public lashing of fornicators (Quran 24:2) and the killing of homosexuals (Leviticus 20:13).

Who should really be offended here? If hate speech were really the issue, these books would be the first to go.

Speaking in metaphors

Let’s just grant the possibility that there is a creator god, who’s omniscient, who occasionally authors books. And he’s gonna give us a book, the most useful book. He’s a loving god, he’s a compassionate god, and he’s gonna give us a guide to life.

He’s got a scribe, the scribe’s gonna write it down. What’s gonna be in that book? I mean just think of how good a book would be if it were authored by an omniscient deity.

I mean, there is not a single line in the bible or the quran that could not have been authored by a first century person. There is not one reference to anything.  There are pages and pages about how to sacrifice animals, and keep slaves, and who to kill and why.

There’s nothing about electricity, there’s nothing about DNA, there’s nothing about infectious disease, the principles of infectious disease. There’s nothing particularly useful, and there’s a lot of iron age barbarism in there, and superstition.

This is not a candidate book. I mean I can go into any Barnes & Noble blindfolded, and pull a book off a shelf which is gonna have more relevance, more wisdom for the 21st century than the bible or the quran.

Bahawalpur mob justice: ‘Blasphemer’ burnt alive by mob as police looked on.

In a harrowing incident of mob justice, hundreds of people accused a ‘deranged’ man of sacrilege, mercilessly beat him and burnt him alive in southern Punjab, police said on Wednesday.

The Express Tribune

The man’s crime? Apparently, he threw pages of the Quran on the street. I guess he was cleaning out his birdcage.

People who believe in the Bible don’t seem to be anywhere as violent as those who believe in the Quran. Maybe God and Muhammed should have a cage match and fight to the death.

The only problem I can see with this is that neither one exists.

Go ahead, take any book written by a famous atheist and throw pages on the street. Are you burned alive? Nope. At worst, you’ll get a ticket for littering. Yet somehow theist weirdos feel they can kill anyone who challenges their beliefs. Wow, talk about insecure. I guess they really know the truth but don’t want to admit they’ve been fools all their lives.
